Frequently Asked Questions

Information to prepare for product selection, quotations, documents, OEM requests and outdoor equipment maintenance.

What information is needed to select a high-voltage fuse or fuse link?

Start with the system voltage and frequency, transformer or motor rating, normal load current, available fault current, inrush or starting duty, installation arrangement and the applicable standard. A single-line diagram, quantity and destination market help us confirm a suitable fuse family and holder or cutout interface.

When should a drop-out fuse cutout be used instead of a current-limiting fuse?

A drop-out cutout is commonly used on outdoor distribution feeders and transformer laterals where visible isolation and field replacement are important. A current-limiting fuse is selected where the available fault energy, equipment duty or space requires fast limitation inside a defined enclosure. The two arrangements are not interchangeable; the application and coordination study should determine the choice.

How do I specify an outdoor high-voltage disconnect switch?

Please provide rated voltage and current, short-time withstand current, insulation level, operating method, phase spacing, mounting dimensions, altitude, pollution or salt exposure and whether load-break duty is required. Photos or interface drawings are useful when the switch must match an existing pole, frame or substation structure.

How should surge arresters and insulation products be coordinated?

The arrester continuous operating voltage, grounding method, discharge class and location should be reviewed together with the equipment insulation level, creepage distance and mechanical support. GRL can review the system voltage, lightning exposure, installation altitude and pollution level before recommending a coordinated arrester, insulator and fitting combination.

Can GRL support OEM or project-specific product requirements?

Yes. For suitable product families, GRL can review drawings, samples, nameplates, labels, packaging, fitting interfaces and project documentation. The normal process is requirement review, technical confirmation, drawing or sample approval, production planning, inspection and export delivery. Final feasibility depends on the requested ratings, structure, quantity and applicable standards.

Which technical and quality documents can be supplied?

Depending on the product and project, the document package may include datasheets, outline drawings, installation information, product photographs, inspection records, packing lists and applicable certificates or test reports. Tell us the required standard, language, document format and approval stage when sending the inquiry.

What maintenance checks are recommended for outdoor electrical equipment?

Only qualified personnel should work on de-energized and properly isolated equipment. Typical checks include visible condition, contact wear, mechanical operation, corrosion, insulator cleanliness, arrester condition, fuse-link status, terminal tightness and signs of overheating. Inspection intervals should follow the project operating procedure, environment and equipment manufacturer guidance.
